Tong, in the parish of Birstall, wap. Of Morley, and honour of Pontefract; 7 miles sw of Leeds. Population 1893.
This place is generally called the Lordship of Tong, and is the Tuinc of Domesday. It has been successfully transmitted through the Tongs, the Mirfields, and the Tempests, and is now enjoyed by John Plumbe, esq.
Tong-hall commands a view of the Moravian Establishment, at Fulneck, from which the lordship is divided by a deep and fertile valley.
